- Why are you adopting? Due to medical reasons, we cannot have anymore biological children. During our mission trip to the Philippines, we encountered dozens of orphans that found their way into our hearts. God gave us a bibical example of adoption through His Word, and we are excited to follow it.
- How did you choose Ethiopia? We originally pursued the Philippines; however, when that fell through, our agency suggested Ethiopia due to the great need there. Ethiopia houses 5 million orphans, many of whom do not reach age five due to starvation or disease. Additionally, the wait time for an Ethiopian adoption is approximately 1 year, as opposed 3-5 in the Philippines.
- How much money to you have to raise? In total about $35,000. We have raised about $21,000 so far.
- Why is it so expensive? Adoption is a very expensive venture. Here are just a few of the expenses involved: Travel fees ($15,000), vaccines, background checks, agency fees, required donation to the orphanage, homestudy, fees to the government (theirs and ours).
- How are you going to adjust to the language difference? Kids learn foreign languages much faster than adults, and we are also learning important phrases in Amarhic.
- Do you have a picture of Eli? We do, but for legal reasons, we cannot post them until he is officially adopted. However, we can show his super sweet face in person. I alway have his picture with me, so ask next time you see me :)
- Is Eli his "real" name? He was born Solomon (no middle name, can't share last name). We are giving him the name Eli Solomon because we love it, and a new name represents his new life with as a Weimer.
- How do your kids feel about this? After they experienced the orphanage in the Philippines and realized how many children live without parents, they were committed to expanding our family. They have donated some of their own possessions to sell in the garage sale.
